Much anticipated, Apple’s New tablet iPad launched today … ! It is all same as rumored, and feels like a big size iPod touch in your hand. But whats this ……. iPad too is not multitasking ???? … Damn man …. We are in digital age and multitasking is now a basic feature of most OS driven devices and applications and I am still not able to understand what is restricting Apple to make there devices multitasking.

I couldn’t make iPhone as my phone because of this this major missing feature “Multi-tasking”..
What it mean… .simply it wont allow you to keep open 2 or more application at same time. And this is damm bad. I want to keep running always my IMs (I use skype most, but still keeps Yahoo, MSN and Gtalk for my friends) regardless I play a game or run any other application. Or lets take another situation…. I want to keep listening to Internet radio in background and read a book as well. But its not possible in any smart line products from apple such as iPhone or iPod touch, and now iPad too !

And all above you can get with most of smart phones available today … Palm, HTC, Nokia, RIM… or Android based.

I see iPad just a big size iPod touch + inbuilt mic ! ( damm … iPod touch doesnt have mic, and I wasnt aware until I bought it…)
So if you hook a tiny microphone to your ipod touch … it will be same as iPad except the big size. Your applications are same as ipod/iphone. iPad’s screen resolutions is 1024×768 wich provide 132 ppi (pixels per inch) much less then what I was expecting, Google’s nexus one much more clear picture with almost 152 ppi.

I coudnt see any reason till now to upgrade my smart-phone to iPad, or downgrade my laptop to iPad…

पिछले 7 मार्च को शर्मिला को रिहा कर के फ़िर से गिरफ़्तार कर लिया गया … आरोप “आत्महत्या की कोशिश” !

कौन है ये शर्मिला … क्या आप जानते है ?

तमाम गान्धीवाद की बातें करने वाले लो भी शायद शर्मिला से अन्भिग्य होंगे ! शर्मिला मणिपुर पूर्वोत्तर मे फ़ौजी शासन का कानून हटाने के लिये पिछले 8 साल से भूख हड्ताल पर है ! और ये गान्धी को राष्ट्रपिता मानने वाले देश की सबसे बडी विडम्बना है कि शार्मिला को “आत्महत्या के प्रयास” के आरोप मे गिरफ़्तारी और सजा भी मिल रही है। अगर गान्धीजी इस आजाद भारत मे सान्स ले रहे होते तो शायद वो फ़िर कभी उपवास या ‘hunger till die’ नही कर पाते, क्यो कि आत्महत्या के प्रयास मे उनको भी जेल भेज दिया जाता और मुकदमे मे 3-4 साल कि सजा भी होती।
भारत क कानून लिख्नने वाले इस भूख हड्ताल के हथियार से अच्छी तरह वाकिफ़ हो चुके थे और समझते थे कि ये हथियार उपलब्ध रहने दिया तो देश मे अपनी मर्जी से शासन चलाना मुस्किल हो जायेगा । इसलिये भूख हड्ताल को भी ‘आत्महत्या क प्रयास’ कह कर इस पर कानूनी शिकजा कस दिया।

खैर … यहा मुद्दा कानून का नही है बल्कि इतने बडे आन्दोलन पर जनमानस और मीडिया की उपेक्षित रवैया है । शर्मिला के बारे मे मुझे जानकारी 4-5 साल पहले ही हुई और वो भी BBC की वेबसाइट पर, जबकि यह उपवास आन्दोलन सन 2000 से जारी है। भारतीय टीवी मीडिया के लिये तो ये कभी खबर बनी नही और ना ही बन सकती है क्योकि इसमे कोइ मसाला नही है और ये चैनल की रेटिन्ग बढाने मे कोई मदद नही करेगा। ना यहा चान्द मोहम्मद जैसा रोमान्स है और ना ही गड्ढे मे फ़से बच्चे के जीवित होने या ना होने का सस्पेन्स् । और ना ही भूत प्रेत का किस्सा और ना ही किसी नागिन का पुनर्जन्म । फ़िर फ़र्क ही क्या पडता है इन मीडिया के दिग्गजो को … । मै बहुत सारे अखबार तो पढ नही पाता लेकिन जितनो का भी अनुसरण करता हू, किसी ने इस खबर को आज तक तबज्जो नही दी । और तो और बडी बडी बाते करने वाले भारतीय ब्लोग्विदो की भी बहुत कम प्रतिक्रिया ही दिखाई दी ।

खैर मीडिया को क्यो भला बुरा कहें … आज यह एक सिर्फ़ उद्योग ही तो है । और आम जनता … उसे भी क्या मतलब है … इस घटना से कोई उसकी रोजी रोटी पर फ़रक थोडी पडेगा । फ़िर आज की दुनिया मे कौन गान्धी … और कैसा गान्धीवाद । आज की जनता तो वैसे भी गान्धी को कोसती ही मिलती है । जहा भी मौका मिला गान्धी को लतिया ही लेते है… ऐसे मे जो गान्धीवाद की बात करे तो वो उनके लिये निरा मूर्ख है।

और विस्वास ना हो तो उन लोगो की राय सुनिये जो गान्धीजी के नाम का ही खाते पीते है … महात्मा गांधी की पोती इला गांधी भी इन्ही मे से एक है और कहती है – “जहाँ तक शर्मिला का सवाल है, इस बात को ध्यान रखने की ज़रूरत है कि गांधी ने कभी भी अकेले सत्याग्रह की बात नहीं की. उन्होंने इसके लिए समुदाय को साथ लेकर चलने की बात कही. दूसरा यह कि लोगों का समर्थन भी मिलना ज़रूरी है.”

अब क्या करे इला जी ? मैने जहा तक गान्धीजी को पढा और समझा है … उन्होने ये कभी नही कहा कि सत्याग्रह तभी करो जब बहुत सारा समर्थन हासिल हो …और आप को लगता है तो क्या आपने अभी तक शर्मिला के समर्थन किया ? क्या कभी उससे मिलने पहुची … किसी मन्च पर शर्मिला कि चर्चा की ? क्या आपने शर्मिला के समर्थन मे एक दिन का भी उपवास रखा ?

सन 2000 मे भारतीय फ़ोजियों ने शर्मिला के कस्बे मे घुसकर कइ लोगो को मौत के घाट उतार दिया था । मणिपुर पूर्वोतार राज्य मे सेना को “विशेष अधिकार अधिनियम” के तहत किसी को भी गिरफ़्तार करने और बिना मुकद्दमा चलाये अपने कब्जे मे रखने के अधिकार मिले हुए है। इन अधिकारो का सेना के लोगो का भरपूर दुरुपयोग होता है। ये कोइ एक एकलोती घटना नही है… बल्कि ना जाने कितने बेगुनाह मौत के घाट उतारे जा चुके है । 2000 मे शर्मिला की दुनिया उजड्ने के बाद उसने इस विशेषधिकार कानून के खिलाफ़ अपनी लडाई शुरु की । एक असहाय के पास ‘गान्धीवाद’ से बडा कोइ हथियार नही था … और इस हत्याकाण्ड के बाद शार्मिला ने भूख हड्ताल शुरू कर दी।

और तभी से ये अनवरत लडाई और अनवरत यातना जारी है …!

What kind of license you provide for your software … or you have seen for products..?

Every product or industry has material licensing system. For photographs, articles, designs, software’s and many more. And for that many kind of licensing we have seen. Some most common licenses are CCL, GPL, BSD and some are commercial. But recently I encountered a very unique license.

Yes, that is provided by a very famous dict tool, “WordWeb”. Wordweb is small dictionary application, which provide extremely effective dict help with windows. Wordweb offer 2 versions for download, “FREE” and “Buy PRO”. As usual, we are addicted to word “FREE” and simply I downloaded and installed in my laptop. As all websites and products ask for something like “I Agree” ….this also has a simple line somewhere in page text “WordWeb is fully functional, but to use it you must satisfy the licensing conditions “, not even ask for clicking check box of “I Agree”. We all are very much used to see such text and without reading or bothering what it is, just we go for download. And that’s what I did.

It was working perfectly well .. And one day, suddenly a pop-up came out when I tried to use it. It was a simple question ….something like this :

And a instinct feeling of richness, I checked 3rd option …. ! And that’s it… second pop-up comes out and it said :

Wordweb’s website also mentioned in there licensing section : “If you can afford to fly, so that you do not satisfy the license, you can afford to buy the program.”

Wow .. That’s wonderful license, specially the implementation of the license.

I will not go much in technical depth, like protocol … codec’s… encryption … but this is just an overview….!

First let understand what kind of VoIP solutions available in market. PC-to-PC calls like yahoo IM also falls under VoIPs but I will talk here specifically those VoIPs, who are connected to PSTN network. Simply… A VoIP service that can communicate with a normal phone line or mobile.

There are many different providers available in market. Technically I will classify:

1. Based on Proprietary protocol. – eg. Skype, yahoo.

2. Based on Open/Common protocol. – eg.  betamax and so many.

Based on there service, I can be classified:

1. PC to Phone only (soft phone based)

These services basically usage software phone client to call out side on PSTN network. Yahoo is good example of this service ( http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_calls.php ). There are so many other providers.

+ : Good voice quality

+ : Good customer support.

- : You must need your computer on.

- : Very less provider offers ‘dial-in-number’ facility

2. Bundled: Phone device + Voip service ( may or may not be contract)

Vonage VoIP System

Most of providers using this model. They offer bundled service where you need to buy a complete package with hardware phone device as well as service. Most of provider needs time based contract to cover initial setup/hardware cost.

Vonage is good example for such service. Vonage also hold title of VoIP leader in market, having more then 2.5 million subscriber base, nobody can simply beat them.

+: Good service support and customer care.

- : You are totally bounded with there contract or monthly fees.

-: Not much choice for handsets, or mobile .

-: Cant integrate with other equipments/services.

3. Open/Common protocol based VoIP Services.

These kind of provider just sale there VoIP service. Mostly are based on SIP protocol. Betamax is good example, it is said, they are offering lowest rates, no body can beat them. Skype is kind of mixed service. They run on proprietary protocol. They offer PC-to-Phone on large level, they sale phone devices, they allow other manufacturers to make and sell phone devices for skype.

+: Mostly no long time contracts

+: Pay as much you use as pre-paid system

+: You can buy phone device by your choice.

-: Bad support/customer care or can say … no customer care.

-: You need to setup/configure your device own (BTW, its quite easy but people afraid).

Now it all depends, what kind of service you are looking, where you want to make most of calls, and what rates are suitable for you.

I generally prefer SIP based services. Basic reason is freedom, free from contract, I can choose phone device of my choise, I can change service provider any time without changing my device. It can integrate easily with other VoIP systems. And majorly…. these services are much cheaper then any other kind of services.. Like Skype, Vonage, Allvoi etc.

Let see.. how you can use SIP based voip services. When you buy SIP service, it will give you SIP server name, username, password.

1. PC-to-Phone.

- Even if you don’t get, there are so many available freely. X-lite & Zoiper (supports SIP and IAX2 both) are my choice.

2. Phone-to-Phone

There are so many device now available for SIP, you can just chose them based on need and cost.

1)  Router (or modem or adopter)  with VoIP – Many routers are having VoIP facility, and provides a port for traditional analog phone connection. I am using this setup only, having a zoom router with voip, and connected a wireless telephone with it.
